Human Stem Cell-Derived RGCs for Optic Nerve Regeneration

In the first phase of the VRI the Zack lab optimized their method to generate human RGCs from human stem cells and provided these to other members of the consortium for cell transplantation studies aimed at regenerating the optic nerve. In Phase B this project aims to further improve their RGC differentiation protocol, characterize the cells more fully at the molecular level, and develop a method for RGC purification that will be suitable for approval from the FDA for use in humans for restoring vision in NF1-OPG patients.
